Barry Bernstein, Vice President of the Long Island Chapter of the National PHA, passed away on October 21, 2009 after suffering a stroke. He was 75 years old. He had joined the LIPHA as a professional member many years ago and was active on many committees throughout the years, his favorite being the Scholarship Committee.

Bernstein was founder and creator of Mida Products, joint supplements for horses that are given in the form of horse treats (www.Midaplex.com). The innovative products were a direct result of his many years of horse ownership and, like most horse owners, the frustration of getting the horse to consume a full dosage of glucosamine, which is often left on the bottom of the bucket.

Debby deLeyer, President of the LIPHA, spoke for all who knew him when she said, “We will all miss Barry, not only because of the active part he played within the LIPHA, but because they don’t come nicer than him. With his sense of humor and constant smile, he was always enjoyable to be around. As a friend, all you had to do was pick up the phone and Barry would be there for you instantly.”

He is survived by his wife, Mary, and two daughters. Ω
